Livestreaming technology has arrived, and it offers opportunities for anyone with a message to reach new people.
Anyone with a smartphone can download the (free) Periscope or Blab app and be seen by anyone else spending time on one of those services.
People do business with people they know, like, and trust.
The best way for people to get to know you is to actually see you in person. If you can’t make an in-person meeting, this is the next best thing. Video, and in this case, livestreaming, gives you the chance to get in front of many more people through the beauty of technology.
How does livestreaming turn new audiences into new business?
If you decide to livestream, whether it’s on Blab, Periscope, or even Meerkat, make sure you are focused on providing value. Share your knowledge, tell stories that will help your audience, and give them solutions to their problems. Once you’re finished, give viewers a way to stay connected to you. Share your website, let them know how to sign up for your newsletter, lead them to your social media groups. Your goal is to cultivate a relationship with the people who choose to tune in. The best way to do that is to connect with them via email or in some kind of one-on-one discussion. That’s the way to turn viewers into potential business partners.
I am creating a series of articles on video marketing and in this one, I’ll go through Blab.
Blab can be accessed at blab.im. There is a Blab app for the smartphone as well.
If you have been invited to be a guest in a Blab chat, take a minute to explore the website before you jump into your session.
You’ll sign in using your Twitter account, meaning you can share information about your Blab with your Twitter followers (just like Periscope).
Once inside Blab, you’ll see rows of videos, which are Blab chats that are underway. Click into one of them and take a listen. You’ll see four squares. The person in the square in the top left is the host. That person has the power to add people to the other three seats. You can tap the screen and “give props,” which lets them know you like what they are saying.
People can schedule Blabs in advance. If you see one that interests you, subscribe to it, and, depending on your notification settings, you’ll be notified when the show goes on.
Let’s say you are invited to join a Blab. The host will send you a link, which you will be able to share on social media. Click the link a few minutes before show time and the Blab will open up in a new window. You’ll see a timer and once that goes to 00:00, you will see a little “Call in” circle in one of the squares. You click on that, the host approves you, and you’ll be inside the Blab, ready to chat!
Blab features & benefits:
*Can access the service using a desktop
*If you are the host of the Blab, you will receive recordings via mp3 and mp4 minutes after your Blab chat ends.
*The messaging feature on the right side is a huge plus. You can really interact with people who are in the audience
*Up to 4 people can be involved in the call
*Great for interviewing people. Some people have used Blab to record podcast episodes
Here are some tips for success on Blab:
*Blab is a relatively new platform, but more people are becoming aware of the power of livestreaming. If you schedule a Blab, create a headline that will engage a wide variety of people.
*If you’re the host of the Blab, keep control of the room and make sure guests have the chance to speak.
*Be consistent. If you decide to host a daily or even a weekly show, host it at the same time and don’t miss it. People will come to depend on your show and will join you if you are there with any regularity.
*Look for opportunities to share your videos. Don’t be discouraged by low attendance to your live chats. Since you will be able to share the replay, make sure you take advantage of that. Post the videos to your website, to your social media channels, and send them to your email list. The videos will work for you long after the broadcast ends.
Livestreaming isn’t new, but there are some new applications that make the process easier and a lot more fun. So enjoy the experience!
You can join us for a #Success series on Blab Friday afternoons at 1 (EST).
