Do you freeze up every time you think about speaking into a camera and posting that video on social media?
Watch a recent video training I did and learn three things you can do right now to start feeling more comfortable on camera.
So many people tell me they want to start using video in their business.
And yet, something’s not quite right. They don’t feel comfortable seeing themselves on camera.
I recently did a shoot for the show I host, HR Business Weekly, and everyone I spoke with that day felt the same way. They weren’t excited about the idea of getting on video.
I wanted to share some tips I’ve learned over years of being in front of a camera to help you find success with video.
In an interview situation, like I was in during our shoot, you’ll be led by the host and you’ll answer questions you are asked.
But if you’re interested in creating your own videos for your website or your YouTube channel, consider these three points:
1. Be prepared.
Take a few minutes, gather your thoughts and prepare an outline that highlights what you’ll share with your audience. Here’s a framework you can use: Tell them what you’re going to be talking about, tell them the parts they need to know and then re-cap what you talked about.
2. Keep it simple.
You are probably pretty well-versed in your topic. But your audience isn’t. So keep industry words and complicated ideas out of your short videos. Share your main idea, a story to back it up and a way to reach you. Keep it simple.
3. Control what you can control.
So much can go wrong in live television. But you can control some things – like the way your hair looks, how your makeup shows up and lighting. So prepare for those things before you turn the camera on and you’ll be happier with the results.
